Alan Mackin

Chief Operating Officer

Alan Mackin has recently joined Aforza as Chief Operating Officer. He brings an attitude of innovation and dynamic strategy to the team, as well as years of experience as an established tennis player and business manager for top sports organizations.

We are thrilled to welcome Alan and his expertise to the Aforza team!

Alan is a native of Paisley, Scotland. He’s played tennis since he was a toddler and as an adult, embarked on a distinguished career in professional tennis, competing on the international circuit for over a decade. Throughout his tenure, Alan faced off against some of the sport’s most formidable opponents, including Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Stan Wawrinka. Alan achieved a career-high singles ranking of 213 and proudly represented the United Kingdom in prestigious competitions such as the Davis Cup, Grand Slam events and ATP tournaments.

Following a successful tennis career, Alan seamlessly transitioned into senior management roles within sports organizations across three continents. Since relocating to Canada in 2012, he has served as CEO at two provincial sport organizations and managed Tennis Canada training center programs in Alberta and Ontario. Most recently, during his tenure at Tennis Alberta, Alan spearheaded a successful rebuild of the Provincial Association, achieving several noteworthy accomplishments. A few of those are as follows:

  • Alan effectively lobbied for tennis to be among the first sports in Alberta permitted to reopen for competition during the pandemic, benefiting the Albertan tennis community.
  • He significantly bolstered Tennis Alberta’s financial position through various revenue generation measures, including successful fundraising initiatives, grant applications, membership growth, and securing sponsorships for programs, tournaments, and special events.
  • Under Alan’s leadership, Tennis Alberta expanded coaching course opportunities, resulting in a surge of newly qualified coaches supporting grassroots and club programs across the province.
  • As a staunch advocate of grassroots tennis, Alan collaborated with community’s province-wide to enhance accessibility to the sport for players of all ages and backgrounds. He established relationships and provided substantial resources to enable communities to expand tennis programs, host try tennis events, and organize tournaments.
  • During Alan’s tenure at Tennis Alberta, there was a significant increase in the number of sanctioned tournaments available for members of all ages and skill levels. This led to a notable influx of new members joining the organization, as well as a high retention rate among existing members.

His qualifications are equally as impressive. Alan is a graduate of Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, UK, where he earned a Business Management Degree (BA). He holds various tennis business management and coaching certifications from esteemed institutions including the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals), The Lawn Tennis Association, The United States Professional Tennis Association, The PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) and Tennis Canada.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Alan maintains a passion for sports, including rugby, football (soccer), golf and, of course, tennis. Additionally, Alan is an avid traveler who appreciates exploring new cultures and landscapes. He enjoys reading a variety of autobiographies and actively seeks opportunities to enhance his Spanish language proficiency.
